In St Josse district, between the new European district and the more popular neighbourhoods of this Brussels area is situated the oldest and the latest artists city: the Ateliers Mommen with 30 studios and collective housing for artists, created in the 19th century and still active.
A young artist collective, Ateliers Mommen asbl was created to develop a sustainable project and to save the artists city threatened by the speculation property and the gentrification in place in the giant building site and urban market that Brussels became and always was. In the framework of VJ8 the Ateliers Mommen asbl will present the last state of the evolutive diagram tracing the story of the artists city, a story in the crossroad between the different cultural, urban, speculative politics in place in Brussels.
