The oldest and the last remaining artists city of Brussels is situated in the St Josse district, between the new European district and the more popular neighbourhoods:
the Ateliers Mommen, with 30 studios and collective housing for artists, was created in the 19th century and is still active. A young artist collective,
Ateliers Mommen asbl, was created to develop a project to save the artists city which is threatened by property-speculation and gentrification in the area.
