Blasco Gallardo, Jorge
Jorge Blasco Gallardo is a freelance writer and director of cultural projects.
He holds a degree in Fine Arts by the USAL. He has also carried out studies in the Technological Educational Institution (TEI) of of Athens (Graphic Arts Deparment).
Afterwards he takes a postgraduate course at the UPC.
During the PhD courses he focuses on a theorical thought of the relations between art, history, architecture, urbanism and aesthetics.
He obtains the scholarship FI that is granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya and works as an investigator at the UPC (1998-2001, in the research field of Architecture and Design )
He is currently writing his thesis on archive-museum cultures.
He works as a guest professor at the master degree Arte, Espacio y Arquitectura Efímera and is usually invited to take part in several seminars, workshops and lectures in different educational institutions.
He collaborates with the Fundació Antoni Tapies (2000-2003) as co-director of the cultural project Archive Cultures, which is an original idea of Nuria Enguita Mayo and Jorge Blasco Gallardo.
As a cultural project, Archive Cultures is inserted in a historiography slant in wich a good part of the systems that organize texts and images share a common genealogy, where renaissance theaters and palaces of memory, first scientific exhibitions, first photography rooms, propaganda exhibitions and recent performances of the holocaust (or other tragedies related to the repression) cross continuously the line between exhibition and archive. Nevertheless, its point of departure is not that genealogy but the 20th contributions that artists and narrators have made on archives and the evidence shown by these works about a way of keeping information, building memory and ranging reality that, without a doubt, has marked all our cultural and social space.
The Archive Cultures project has had three stages: the first one at the FAT, the second one at the University of Valencia with the title Memory, identity, identification, and the third one at the USAL named Collections and New Documents.
Recently it has been published the volume Archive Cultures which is a compilation of the essays, images, records and materials assembled, displayed and generated by the project from its beginnigs to date (2000).
He is nowadays working on the production and design of two new stages and publications of the project and edits the website culturasdearchivo.ua.es with the collaboration of the University of Alicante and the Museum of the University of Alicante
