SMS FAQ |
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the user can send a slogan to the database through the web page of centro de arte.
Each day a script executed on the server selects a slogan from the database and sends it to the cellphones of the people who subscribed.
There are two ways of doing it:
the way through the web(through msnsms.com for instance)
(see schema.gif)
first::
the script:
-someone who knows the server (Kiko?) has to program a script that select each day during one month a slogan from the database
second::
(high tech, sophisticated)
sending it: a perl script that simulates a browser takes the slogan and logs to a website from which you can send SMS from the web to different countries and networks and sends the slogan from there.
Problems:
1. the server:
the people running the centro de arte server seem to take no part in the project. So the only person I know that is aware of the specificities of your server is Kiko. Is he hired to help us again or not? If not we have to find someone who knows the MicroSoft server of yours and who will be trusted by your system admin to write this script(for a matter of trust, it would be better that Kiko does it because he is already trusted by the sys admin).
2.second the script:
I have made researches and the best way (although it is experimental) to automatise this is to use a Perl script to simulate a browser and that can log to a website to send automatically a SMS. We are back to the server question: is Perl installed? If not we can host it on another server.
3. the Perl script again: we have to hire someone to do it because it is very specific ( so back to the budget). But I know the person who can make it.
4.the websites from which to send the SMS:
this is the most difficult part:
these websites are going down one after the other, so I check regularily if they are still on.
Even the official from MicroSoft is down.
Solutions:
The persons from the Linux group from Spain have already made a script that could help us for problem n°2 and n°3. Once the presentation I sent you is finished I could ask them to use it.
the way through a cell phone:
(see schema2.gif)
first::
the script:
-someone who knows the server (Kiko?) has to program a script that select each day during one month a slogan from the database
second::
sending it through an automated programme controlling a cell phone and sending SMS through the cell phone
the problem here is the same as above: what can we do on the centro de arte server? Can we put this programme? And if not maybe we can think of a solution where we host this programme elsewhere.
The software is free but I think we have to recruit even shortly a hacker to help doing quickly the job.
for feasability of the second solution which I am testing at the moment(fresh discovery) see the following urls:
